Prophecies Of The Holy Week
Triumphal Entry (Matt 21:1-11; Mk 11:1-11 ; Lk 19:29-44)
- “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your King is coming to you, He is just and having salvation, lowly and riding on a donkey. A colt, the foal of a donkey” (Zech 9:9)
- “Say to the daughter of Zion, surely your salvation is coming, behold, His reward is with Him, and His work before Him” (Isa 62:11)
Betrayal by a friend (Matt 26:21, 47-50 ; Mk 14:43-46; Lk 22:47,48)
- “Even my own familiar friend in whom I trusted, who ate my bread, has lifted up his heel against me” (Ps 41:9)
Sold for 30 pieces of silver (Matt 26:14,15)
- “Then I said to them, If it is agreeable to you, give me my wages; and if not, refrain. So they weighed out for my wages thirty pieces of silver” (Zech 11:12)
Accused by false witnesses (Matt 26:59-61; Mk 14:55-59)
Silent to accusation (Matt 27:13,14; Mk 15:3-5; John 19:9)
- “He was oppressed and He was afflicted yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent” (Isa 53:7)
His sufferings (Matt 27:26,30; Mk 14:65; Mk 15:16-20; John 19:1-3)
- “I gave My Back to those who struck Me, and My cheeks to those who plucked out the beard, I did not hide My face from shame and spitting” (Isa 50:6)
He was innocent (Lk 23:4,22,41,47; 1Pet 2:22,23; John 15;24)
- “He had done no violence, not was any deceit in His mouth” (Isa 53:9) “Let them not rejoice over me who are wrongfully my enemies; nor let them wink with the eye who hat me without a cause” (Ps 35:19)
He crucified with evil doers (Matt 27:38; Mk 15:27,28; Lk 23:33; John 19:18)
- “He poured out His soul unto death, and he was numbered with the transgressors.” (Isa 53:12)
Pierced through hands and feet (John 20:27)
- “They pierced My hands and My feet” (Ps 22:16)
Scorned and mocked (Matt 27:39-44; Mk 15:29-32; Lk 23:35-37)
- “All those who see Me laugh Me to scorn; they shoot out the lip, they shake the hand, saying, He trusted in the Lord, let Him rescue Him, let Him deliver Him, since He delights in Him” (Ps 22:7,8)
Given vinegar and gall (Matt 27:34,48; Mk 15:23,36; John 19:29,30)
- “They also gave me gall for my food, and for my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink” (Ps 69:21)
Praying for His enemies (Lk 23:34)
- “In return for my love they are my accusers, but I give myself to prayer” (Ps 109:4)
Soldiers gambled for His coat (Matt 27:35; Mk 15:24; Lk 23:34; John 19:22-24)
- ”They divided My garments among them, and for My clothing they cast lots.” (Ps 22:18)
Darkness during His crucifixion (Matt 27:45; Mk 15:33; Lk 23:44)
- “I clothe the heaven with blackness and I make sackcloth their covering” (Isa 50:3)
His bones were not broken (John 19:31-33)
- “He guard all His bones, not one of them is broken” (Ps 34:20)
His side was pierced (John 19:34)
- “And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitant of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and supplication, then they will look on Me who they have pierced, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for first born” (Zech 12:10)
He died by His own will (John 10:17,18; Gal 1:4; Php 2:8; Tts 2:14)
- “He poured out His soul unto death” (Isa 53:12)
He carried out sins (Matt 8:17; Rom 4:25; 1Cor 15:3; 2Cor 5:21)
- “Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows …He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way, and the Lord has laid on Him the iniquities…He bore the sin of many…” (Isa 53:4,5,6,11,12)
He was buried in a tomb of a rich man (Matt 27:57-60, Mk 15:43-46; Lk 23:50-53)
- “...and they made His grave with the wicked but with the rich at His death.” (Isa 53:9)
He trampled death through His resurrection (1Cor 15:53-55)
- For You will not leave my soul in Sheol, nor will you allow Your Holy One to see corruption.” (Ps 16:10)
- “He will swallow up death forever, and the Lord God will wipe away tears from all faces. The rebuke of His people He will take away from all the earth, for the Lord has spoken” (Is 25:8)
